Generating product descriptions with templates
Goal: In this article, you will learn how to create and use your own templates to generate product descriptions. The Templates feature in PowerText allows you to create fully personalized content using conditional logic and built-in AI, giving you full control over your content while simplifying the entire process.
What is the Template module?
The Template module in PowerText allows you to quickly and efficiently generate structured product content based on custom-built templates. These templates are flexible and editable, using both conditional logic and AI. This allows you to create content that matches your brand guidelines and goals.
With the Template module, you retain full control over the content of your product descriptions without sacrificing speed or quality. Smart automation ensures consistent, professional content and significantly reduces manual effort. Perfect for anyone looking to work efficiently while maintaining control over tone, structure, and content.
Use the Template module when you want to:
- Create consistent product descriptions across your catalog.
- Have full control over structure and content.
- Eliminate manual copywriting work.
- Generate different versions of product texts for multiple sales channels.
How to Use the Template Module
With the Template module, you define the structure, logic, and style of your product texts. After linking your dataset, PowerText automatically generates content based on your template. Follow the steps below to get started.
Note: When using the API integration, you do not need to upload or export files.
Create a category
- Click the + button to create a new category.
- Enter a name in the text field.
- Click Save.
Tip: Name your category after the relevant product group for clarity
Upload your product data
- Select the category you just created.
- Click the 'New Upload' button.
- Choose your decimal separator (dot or comma).
- Select which columns should be used as identifiers in the output.
- Upload or drag your file into the upload window.
- Click Save to complete the upload.
Build your template
- Click the 'Edit template' button.
- Click the + button to create a new template.
- Choose to start from scratch or copy an existing template.
- Select your target output language.
- Click 'Create' to begin building your template.
Add sections
- Click 'Add section' to create your content blocks (these function like paragraphs).
- Give each section a recognizable name, such as 'Introduction'.
- Use as many sections as needed to structure your text.
Note: Use product features by clicking on them in the features table.
Set your section preferences:
- Shuffle (Randomize snippets within the section)
- Whitespace after sentence (Insert a line break after each sentence)
- Whitespace after section (Insert a line break after each section)
- Generate as column (Output this section as a separate column)
Write your product descriptions using snippets
- Add snippets to each section as needed via de 'Add snippet' button.
- Give each snippet a clear name, such as General description of [product group].
- Write your text in the provided text field.
- Add multiple snippets until your desired structure is complete.
Different ways to write your text:
- Add conditions: Only use the text when a condition is met (e.g. brand = Nike
- Paraphrase: Rewrite the same text (snippet) in different ways to ensure diversity.
- Propose text: Let the AI suggest content. Specify tone, length, and temperature. Temperature controls how creative or strict the AI will be
- Propose Snippet: Let the AI suggest a snippet based on a selected feature, tone, and temperature,
Review your product descriptions
- Click the Preview button to view your generated content.
- Check a few examples to ensure everything is correct.
- Return to the editor to make changes if needed.
Generate and download your product descriptions
- Go back to the overview by clicking the Back button in your browser.
- Click the 'Generate' button to generate your texts in bulk.
- Open the downloaded file and verify the content.
- Import the data into your own (PIM) system.
Helpful Tips & Tricks
- Multiple templates: Create different templates for each sales channel or market to tailor your content accordingly.
- Copy templates: Save time by copying existing templates, especially useful for multilingual content creation.
- Copy template from another category: Want identical content across product groups? Use the Copy from option under Class information to import and adjust an existing template.
- Reuse sections and snippets: Copy sections or individual snippets to other templates for consistency and efficiency.
- AI support for keywords: Add a keyword under Keywords and let the AI suggest relevant snippets automatically. This will speed up the writing process significantly.
- Set capitalization rules: Under the Features section, define how capitalization should be applied to keep style consistent.
- Use Template settings: Define how your content should be generated. Choose plain text or HTML output and assign a replace dictionary if needed. You can also use the Optimize setting to let the AI rewrite your text. Keep in mind that this may affect the structure of your product descriptions.
