Effectively Using Filters When Reviewing Clusters
Goal: In this article, you’ll learn how to use the various filters in the Variants module to efficiently review clusters. By using these filters wisely, you save time and can focus your attention on exactly those clusters that need it most.
What are filters in the Variants module?
Filters in the Variants module are tools that allow you to customize the display of clusters to suit your needs. They help you work more easily with specific clusters without having to scroll endlessly. By applying the right filters, you can quickly find relevant clusters and streamline your workflow.
Use the filters in the Variants module when you want to:
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.
- Quickly find specific clusters.
- Save time when reviewing large volumes of clusters.
- Work in a structured way within a specific segment.
- Check clusters based on specific characteristics.
- Identify clusters that need extra attention.
Which filters are available?
Basic Filters
Product Segment: Only shows clusters within the selected segment or product group. This is often your starting point when filtering.
Product ID: Search for the cluster to which a specific product is assigned by entering the product ID.
Cluster ID: Enter a known cluster ID to navigate directly to that specific cluster.
Cluster Description: Filter by keywords in cluster names, such as “plant” or “book.” This helps you narrow down to a specific subgroup quickly.
Advanced Filters
Feature Relation: Show clusters based on selected attributes (features). You can choose between ‘Or’ and ‘And’.
Feature Value: Filter by specific attribute values. For example: show all clusters with products that are 100 cm in length.
The feature relation filter options explained:
OR: Shows clusters that contain any of the selected features.
AND: Shows only clusters that contain all of the selected features.
Pro tip: Select the same feature in both ‘Feature value’ and ‘Feature relation’ to display only the clusters where the feature was actually used in the clustering.
Display settings
Order by product count/cluster probability: Choose how clusters are sorted (default: no specific order).
Clusters per page: Set how many clusters you want to display per page. This helps you work efficiently without excessive scrolling.
Status: Filter clusters based on their status.
Here’s a breakdown of the different statuses:
- Not checked: Clusters that have not (yet) been fully approved.
- Checked: Clusters that have been fully approved.
- Reopened: Previously approved clusters that have been reopened due to new products.
Special Filters
Hide Orphaned Clusters: Check this option to hide clusters consisting of only one product.
Only Show Clusters Below Probability: Show only clusters with a score below a specific threshold. Use the slider to set the threshold. This helps you focus on clusters that are more likely to require your attention.
How to effectively use filters that work for you
With so many available filters, it’s important to find a workflow that matches your personal way of working. You don’t need to use every filter at once. By choosing deliberately, you’ll work faster and with more focus!
Here are a few practical tips to use filters effectively in a way that suits you:
Start with a consistent base filter set
Begin each review session with the filters you use most often, such as Product Segment or Status. This immediately gives you a relevant selection.
Work in batches based on priority
Use filters like Only show clusters below probability or Status = Not checked to focus on the clusters that need your attention first.
Use combinations that make sense for your workflow
For example, combine Feature Relation (AND) with a specific Feature Value to review clusters that meet multiple criteria.
Adjust filters to match your goal
Want to quickly check if certain products are correctly grouped? Use the Product ID Want to review recently completed clusters? Choose Status = Reopened.
Experiment and optimize
Try different filter combinations. Which ones return the most relevant clusters? What helps you work fastest? If needed, save your favorite filter combination as a starting point.
By using filters consciously and strategically, you’ll create clarity and avoid unnecessary work. This keeps your review process manageable, even when dealing with large numbers of clusters.
